Aug 7 Day 38. Blog 2

We pulled into the driveway to our house between 4:30 and 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. I give that half hour range because that's about how long it took to figure out how to back the darn trailer up into the driveway. After 38 days, and 9100 miles, and at least a dozen times backing into a spot somewhere, you may think I'd be pretty good at by now. You'd be wrong. Peach also did several backups along the way, since we shared driving responsibilities. She is also directionally challenged when it comes to trailer backing. We had a nice night at Perry's in Hayward and an enjoyable lunch with our daughter in Niellsville on our way home. The rest is a blur since we switched drivers several times due to us both being so tired. This was the shortest driving day in a couple of weeks, but it seemed like the longest. The miles just ticked away slowly, maybe because we just wanted to get home.

We have a lot of people to thank;  our neighbors, particularly Austin, for taking care of the house and lawn, and our families and friends for offering information and keeping track of us. And thanks again, Mary, for running this blog; entering all my long texts and many pictures. Without your extensive work, the blog never would have existed.

I have to give a lot of credit to my traveling partner. I'm sure I provided sufficient motive and ample opportunity for Peach to dump the fish and put me in the freezer! She could've tossed me in a remote area of bear-infested Yukon to never be seen again. But she endured, as did I, and together we made a great team, making it through the fridge and freezer issues, the missed turns, the long and rough roads, the nighttime trains, and all the mistakes we made along the way. Would I do a similar trip again? Not for quite a while, but if I do, I'd want to do it with my same traveling partner, my partner in life. But just to be on the safe side, I'd leave the freezer behind.

With Natalie in Niellsville. Our first stop and last stops on the trip were with her.

This shows the overhead bunk open, revealing our normal living condition. Peach wanted me to point out that her clothes are contained in the two bins on the right.

  1. I think a summary post is in order: total miles traveled, total # of times backing up, total number of fish caught, total number of items lost, total number of things broken, total number of bars visited, etc, etc
